Order of the Bearslayer, Nº 686. Awarded - Lapiņš Mārtiņš (11.09.1894 — 28.02.1983), Sergeant of the 5th Cēsis Infantry Regiment (awarded in 1921). Born in Silēni (Lielstraupe district), finished the school there, worked as a carpenter. In 1915 conscripted into the Russian Army, served in the 175th Reserve Infantry Regiment; in 1916 served in the 2nd Rīga Latvian Rifle Regiment. Participated in the fights in Vidzeme, reached the senior non-commissioned officer's rank. Conscripted into the Latvian Army on the 10th of June in 1919 (released on the 22nd of February in 1921). Took the participation in the war against the Baltische Landeswehr and in the liberation of Latvia; got promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant. On the 22nd of February in 1920, when the Bicycle Company got surrounded by Bolsheviks in Vystavka village, Lapiņš has saved the Bicycle company from the defeat and gave it a chance to retreat by opening fire and delaying the attack of the Bolsheviks. After the World War II worked in the collective farm in Dauguļi. Lapiņš spent the rest of his life in Raveļi (Kocēnu distr.); buried on the Augstrozes cemetery. |
